The Dictionary reflects the experience of a number of translators associated with the UMA Institute for Tibetan Studies and the University of Virginia who worked with Jeffrey Hopkins.

The translation equivalents in boldface type arose from group interaction over five decades in the process of translation.  Thus the Dictionary arose from the process of translation rather than an attempt to include as many words as possible from the Tibetan language.
